Mt Mum has a brother Leslie who married Mary Wilson who is a direct descendant
of David Livingstone. A daughter was born to them around 1969/70 June, and
her name is Francis Livingstone Dick-Smith. They lived near Kirkcudbright.
Leslie was county clerk for many years in the shire. My mums father was
born in America and his name was William Augustus Dick his mothers name was
Mary Meader in Boston ( A wealthy prominant family) I don't think they were
impressed with the sea captain She died a few weeks later. My mums
grandfather was ..?.. Dick and he was a sea captain. His sister came over
from England and brought William back to live with her and her husband in
Liverpool. Her name was Mrs Smith therefore William made his name
Dick-Smith. He never saw his father and we don't know what happened to him.
When William was 7 years of age he moved from Liverpool to Edinburgh and
attended Daniel Stewart's College. My mum's dad was County Clerk of West
Lothian for a few years before his death in 1950.He had leukaemia.
Mum was an infant teacher in Kirkliston 1949-1951.
