Comments: I'm very pleased to have found your site. It would appear that I am descended from your un-placed William (b.1798-d.?) My info begins with an article from The Sentinal, Glasgow, dated December 2, 1902, which is the obituary for William Dumbreck, Stirling. It describes him as being in his 83rd year, and as being the son of the late Capt. Dumbreck, R.N., a Trafalgar hero, and who had for many years been Chief Surveyor for the Government in Jerusalem. The article mentions that William had lost his mother in the sinking of a Leith packet off the coast of Fife while on the way to join her husband, and that the infant William was the only survivor.
My records indicate that he was married to Elizabeth Stewart. I suspect his mother was Jane Inglis, who may have been the wife who died & prompted him to re-marry.
William (1821-1902) had at least one son, Adam, although my notes indicate he was born in 1848. With his first wife, Mary Ancrum (B. 7/10/1848, d. 11/30/1874), he had a daughter, Mary Henrietta Ancrum Dumbreck. Mary Ancrum died giving birth. Adam then married Jeanie Morton Mackie (B. 1855, d. 1921). They were married on 6/29/1877. They had three children:
William Dumbreck b.1878, d. 1895
Adam Dumbreck Jr. b. 1879
Marion Walker Dumbreck b. 4/30/1880, d. 10/06/1959.
Marion married Alfred Cross in Glasgow on 12/12/1901, and came to Dover, New Jersey, USA in 1905. Mary Henrietta Dumbreck also came to Dover a bit later. She never married, and is buried in Morristown, New Jersey.
I hope that we might be able to prove William's connection someday. As for Adam's relatives in North America, I am in communication with them all and would be happy to offer any assistance.
Thanks for the great site.
