Misc. Notes
From the West Hennepin County Pioneers Association, dated Nov. 1978:

The James Dillman family left their mark around L ong Lake until this day. The farm ownership descended to sol SOLON who married Ethel Archibald. Fronted with a long row of giant elm trees it was a showplace dairy farm for years until their son David sold out in 1968. In turn thier son James Dillman represents the famiy here. Both generations are life members of our museum.

Considered a daring adventure at the time, nevertheless James in 1874 joined a covered wagon caravan that headed for the black Hills (and Fraser River eventually), looking for gold. When he came back he was considered wealthy as he bought a new cutter, a team of horses, and a new fur coat and furthermore wooed his bride, and so they married and built a substantial house which is still standing on the old homestead.
