Misc. Notes
From Jim Hall:

The United Empire Loyalists were people who wished to remain loyal to the British after the American Revolution and opted to leave the U.S. (via British transport ships, for the most part) and accept land grants and assistance to start life anew in Canada.

Nova Scotia - which at time was made up of present day Nova Scotia, Canada, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island - accepted a large number of Loyalists. One of the areas they
were landed in was Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada and Charlotte's forefather accepted a land grant in the area today known as Clementsport in 1783 and some of the Vrooms still live in this area today.
