From J. Duncan Byers’ diary, 5 Feb 1880: John Dunbrack had his foot smashed.
In 1882, John went to Boston to get artificial leg because of loss of right foot.

Will of John Dunbrack:

In the Name of God AMen

I John Dunbrack (son of James) of Musquodoboit being of sound mind and memory but weak in body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First, I commit my body to the dust from whence it came in hope of A Blessed Resurrection and what worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I devote and bequeath as follows -- First I bequeath to my Son James one Ewe and one ewe Lamb. Second, I give and bequeath to my son Robert Dunbrack the remainder of my personal property together with all my Real Estate and in consideration of the above bequest I do order that my Son Robert Dunbrack maintain my widow Janet Dunbrack in a comfortable manner during her natural life. And lastly I do constitute and appoint William McLean Executor of this my last will and testament and in confirmation of all above writeen I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal at Meagher’s Grant, Musquodoboit County of Halifax Nova Scotia this sixth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty one in presence of
