Misc. Notes
Thomas b1840 d1908 purchased 5 3/4 acres for five hundred and thirty pounds also in Kapunda in 1875, he married Ann (presumably in Scotland in 1871) Thomas arrived in Sydney on the sailing ship 'Hampshire' in 1871. His wife arrived in Sydney 04.01.1872 on the sailing ship 'Galatea.' (I should be able to get photos of these ships) The trip took 140 days. Bill has copies of the passenger lists of both ships I understand. They had two children a son and daughter. I am not sure what happened to the son but the daughter, Kate Dumbreck married Rudolph Eberhart. They had eight children. The first four daughters were killed in a flash flood. They also had four sons. Bill said he had seen the tombstones of William & Tom. He also made contact with Kate Dumbreck's sons, but they told him they were more interested in the Eberhart side of the family, they had a photo of Kate Dumbreck but would not allow Tom to have it copied.

Hi Rod,

I have just written to Bill in Australia enclosing a copy of Mary Dumbreck & James Gibson. Of interest I have a book called 'The Log of Logs' which lists most known ships (of all types) which came to Aust & N.Z. and where any information is held. I found the 'Galatea' on which Thomas Dumbreck's wife sailed on, arriving in Sydney on 04.01.1872. (I cannot find the 'Hampshire' listed).
The 'Galatea was a HMS/steam frigate, 4th rate, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh. It left the UK in 1867 for a Royal Cruise to South Aust, Tasmania, Melbourne, Sydney & N.Z.. accompanied by HM ships Challenger & Virago. for the visit to N.Z.. The First Royal Tour.
There are a few papers held in N.Z. so I will check them out and see if I can get a photo.

Unfortunately the ship Thomas sailed on is not listed. The 'Hampshire' Bill may be able to get pictures for me (you).
I will send you photos of James & Mary by mail, my scanner is still not working, the photos look like negatives, apparently I need to reinstall it the scanner and if that does not work it means I have problems with my drivers! I must say I am not very confident, so I just keep putting it off!!

Regards
Cynthia
