Apologies for not getting back to you sooner but I live in Glasgow now and
your mail was forwarded. My name is Allan Maxwell Dumbreck but I am only a
Dumbreck by proxy as I was adopted by John Allan Dumbreck and his wife
Ellen Maxwell Dumbreck (nee Edgar) at birth.

My adoptive father was born in Wishaw on 12th April 1912 and died in
Edinburgh in August 1993. He was the only child of William Glasgow
Dumbreck who was born in Lanark around 1885. My father was head of housing for
Inverness-shire (1966-74) and Stirling (1974-78) when he retired. His
father served with the Royal Flying Corps in France in WW1 as ground crew and
later worked for Barrs the soft drinks company.

We were told while living in Inverness that the name Dumbreck was Gaelic
and meant "speckled hill" ??

I have checked out the website which is interesting and would like to know
more if and when you have the time.

Incidentally, I was in an Italian restaurant on Lothian Road in Edinburgh
about ten years ago when a girl and three friends came in saying she had
reserved a table in the name of Dumbreck. I went over to her table to say
hello as I had never met anyone with the same name before and she told me
that she came from Fife and that there were two or three families there
with the name.

Would she be a member of your family ? She was about the same age as me so
she would be mid to late thirties now. I didn't catch her first name.

Do stay in touch as family tree info fascinates me. I spent a year tracing
my natural family when I was 24.
