Dear Rod,

It was marvellous to get a letter with 'Dumbreck' spelt correctly, it could
only come from another Dumbreck.
Your letter is of great interest; our name is very rare and is often met
with panic, disbelief and mirth here in England.
I'm fifty years old and moved from Glasgow, with my Mother, Father and
sister,to Kettering when I was seven or eight.
My father's name is Donald and his father's name was Donald.
My grandfather lived in Dalmarnark Road in Glasgow before retiring to East
Kilbride. I believe he had several brothers.
If you'd like to know more about this lineage why not write to my father
at:-
196 Barton Road,
Barton Seagrave,
Kettering
Northants

I hope this has been of some use and if you need any further help or info
just contact me.

Kind Regards, Alan

Dear Rod,

Yes, my middle name is Kilkerr. And yes all the info you have found re my
grandfather is correct.

My aunt Nan is the daughter you refer to. You know what it's like in
Scotland, you christen someone with a name then call them something else.
I'll have to contact her and see if she is 'Agnes", but it's a good bet she
is. The same goes for John. My dad's brother was always called Jack. He died
before I was born so I don't know too much about him except that he hadn't
married or had any children. I'll ask Agnes/Nan for details.

It's very exciting to know that you can trace my line back to 1340, I'd love
to have some details. It's also wonderful to know that we're related. I see
that your work email is pangraphics, are you in the design business? That
would be spooky because I am!

Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,
Alan

Dear Rod,

I think I've got the answers to your questions of 24/10/00.
My paternal Grandparents (Donald & Agnes Dumbreck) had three children:-

Donald Dumbreck
John Dumbreck
Annie Elliot Dumbreck

Annie, my aunt informs me that she was named after her Grandmother.

My Grandfather had 3 brothers and 2 sisters:-

John,William and James;
Julia & Mary.

My Grandfather's mother died and his father remarried.

Please find attached a photograph of William Dumbreck, my Grandparents and
John Dumbreck with his girlfriend Isabel Homes.

Hope this is of some use. If you need any more info please ask.
Look forward to the family tree.
Regards
Alan

Dear Rod,
I'll try and answer your queries:-

Donald Dumbreck. Yes, my father.

John Dumbreck. My father's brother, called Jack by the family. Whether his middle name is Kilkerr I'll have to verify. However it is quite likely so, as my Grandmother had a brother called Jack Kilkerr.

Annie Elliot Dumbreck. Yes, my Aunt Nan. I'll have to verify her date of birth.

My Grandfather (Donald) had three brothers and two sisters. I'm certain this is my Grandfather. The Photograph is of his brother William. William joined the navy, there is a story that he invented some sort of torch / flare for lifeboats or life belts, which resulted in his nickname of 'Torchy'!

Now to the present.
I've got three daughters;
Miranda Lucy Dumbreck 16/2/74
Amy Sarah Dumbreck 30/6/75
Kate Alice Dumbreck 3/10/78

My wife's name is Laraine Helen Dumbreck, nee Ellis. My D.O.B. is 26/3/49.
As promised I'll send pics of my family, when they've chosen them , (vanity, vanity!)

Best regards,
Alan
