Misc. Notes
Dear Rod
I am not having much success in finding any information regarding Archibald Dumbreck.

I have established from the N.Z. National Archives, that registrations of birth/deaths were not compulsory in N.Z. until 1847. (and these are by no means complete) Census records up to 1961 were destroyed by fire!! (exception Nelson 1845-1849) The first N.Z. gold rush started in Nelson in 1854.

Are you sure he emigrated to N.Z.? As in that period of time the 'English' and native 'Maoris' 'were at war'
(the natives having no qualms in killing and eating a 'pakeha' (white man) if caught). Turbulent times!

Can you give me any further information. I do know that up to 1948, if you were born in Scotland and died in another Country, I.e. N.Z., this information was forwarded to the Scottish Registrar.

Any further information would be a great help.
Have you heard from the Australian Dumbrecks?

Regards
Cynthia
